Our First Old Fridge Kegerator

We started developing our first Kegerator around 10 months ago on an old fridge, which Alex, our resident tool guy took to and produced an amazing looking specimen.

Painted in our Keg Resources corp colours (so to speak) it is fitted with a long shank tap and we have the drip tray ready to bolt on - we didn't want to scratch it.

Read more about the project, see some more pics and see what lead us towards our current Kegerator and why.....

Here's a couple of nice shots showing off Alex's hard work

Project Progress

As we progressed with the project we realised having a large heavy BOC CO2 gas cylinder hanging around outside the fridge was going to become a real pain.  It also transpired that the only way to have CO2 gas was to hire these large bottles and pay per month (whether we used them or not).

It also became obvious that getting hold of old fridges was sometimes hard to do especially in the larger numbers that we wanted to do.

So we started looking into what was commercially available but that turn quickly into importing our own fridge and as we discovered, we found the exact product we were looking for through our supplier in Australia.

It was exactly what we believe that market in NZ needs as it comes with many features - some added as ex factory - that suit or customers such as:
  • Frost free
  • Fan and circuit board that reduce the temperature to 2 - 4 degrees C
  • Strong Castors
  • Fits either a single 25 L or 50 L Keg (standard NZ commercial keg) or 3 cornelius "home brew" type kegs
  • Single tower and tap (suits the single commercial keg)
  • Fully stainless couplers and regulator
  • Can easily be swapped back to a double tower/taps and ball joint couplers
  • Metal tray in the bottom adds strength
  • 2.6 kg Co2 gas bottle fits inside or on the back so you can wheel it anywhere

Keg Resources CO2 Gas Bottles

It came with a 2.6kg CO2 gas bottle, however these ARE NOT LAB certified for use in NZ,  Here is an example, our will be very similar.

We quickly overcame this by arranging to supply our own Keg Resources gas bottles from Poland that have been put through the rigorous LAB certification process for us in NZ.  These bottles ARE able to be used and refilled in NZ to the LAB certified standard.

BTW the will be here in about 40-50 days (on the boat).

WARNING:  we have seen some cheap knockoffs of our product up on trademe, we suspect they are trying to flick them with this non-NZ usable CO2 bottle and NO couplers, tower, taps or probably no warranty or support.

YES WE OFFER WARRANTY 12 mths and you can get them on finance as well.

So that's probably enough for the first project and background, next post I will introduce the Kegerator properly with more pics and info.

Cheers
